Sodium perborate is prepared by the reaction of borax, hydrogen peroxide and sodium hydroxide. Monohydrate can be heated by tetrahydrate, and it has higher reactive oxygen content, greater solubility and dissolution rate in water, and is more stable to heat. Sodium perborate reacts with water to hydrolyze to form hydrogen peroxide and sodium borate. Sodium perborate rapidly decomposes above 60°C to release hydrogen peroxide, so only at this temperature can sodium perborate fully exhibit bleaching activity. Tetraacetyl ethylenediamine (TAED) is often added as an activator below 60°C.

Bleaching/sterilization/electroplating
Among them, monohydrate and trihydrate sodium perborate are more important in industry. It is a high efficiency oxygen bleaching agent, also has sterilization, fabric color preservation and other functions, widely used in bleaching powder, laundry powder, detergent and other daily materials. The compound sodium can be used as an oxidizing preservative in food, medicine and other fields to extend the shelf life of products by oxidizing metabolic products of bacteria. Sodium perborate can be used as a bleaching agent, sodium perborate dissolved in water can release reactive oxygen species, which can oxidize chromosomal molecules in the chromophore, making it colorless or light, thus playing a bleaching role. The compound has a strong bleaching ability, but does not damage the fiber, suitable for protein fibers such as: wool/silk, and long fiber haute cotton bleaching. As a fungicide, sodium perborate can release reactive oxygen species after being dissolved in water, which can kill microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi and viruses, and has a good bactericidal effect. In the study of organoborate chemistry, this chemical is commonly used in the oxidation reaction of arylboron, which can efficiently oxidize phenylboric acid derivatives to the corresponding phenol. Sodium perborate can also be used as one of the additives for electroplating solution, electroplating is a common surface treatment technology, can be plated on the surface of the object on a layer of metal film to protect and beautify the surface of the object, but also has electrical conductivity, anti-corrosion and other functions. The substance can be used as an additive in electroplating solution to improve the reaction rate and reaction selectivity during electroplating. Sodium perborate as an oxidizing agent during electroplating can provide oxidizing substances and promote the electroplating reaction. At the same time, the chemical can also adjust the pH value of the electroplating solution to maintain it within the appropriate range, so as to ensure the progress of the electroplating reaction. In addition, sodium perborate can also inhibit the impurity reaction during electroplating and improve the selectivity and purity of electroplating.
