Calcium hydroxide is a white fine powder at room temperature, slightly soluble in water, and its clarified aqueous solution is commonly known as clarified lime water, and the milky suspension composed of water is called milk of lime. The solubility decreases with the increase of temperature. Insoluble in alcohol, soluble in ammonium salt, glycerol, and can react with acid to produce the corresponding calcium salt. At 580 ° C, it decomposes into calcium oxide and water. Calcium hydroxide is a strong alkali and has a corrosive effect on skin and fabrics. However, due to its small solubility, the harm degree is not as great as sodium hydroxide and other strong bases. Calcium hydroxide can interact with acid-base indicators: purple litmus test solution is blue in the presence of calcium hydroxide, and colorless phenolphthalein test solution is red in the presence of calcium hydroxide.

Farm sterilization
In the vast rural areas, pig houses and chicken houses are often disinfected with hydrated lime powder after cleaning. In winter, the trees on both sides of the road should be brushed with lime slurry more than one meter high to protect the trees, sterilization, and prevent spring tree diseases and insects. When growing edible fungi, it is also necessary to disinfect the planting soil with a certain concentration of lime water.
Bricklaying & painting the walls
When building a house, hydrated lime is mixed with sand, and the sand is evenly mixed and used for laying bricks to make them stronger. When the house is finished, the walls will be painted with lime paste. The lime paste on the walls will absorb carbon dioxide from the air, undergo a chemical reaction, and become hard calcium carbonate, making the walls white and hard.
Water treatment
